3Mtm Lavatm Zirconia is a brand name of a series of high-strength, all-ceramic Zirconium Dioxide (ZrO2) materials manufactured by 3 M. In restorative dentistry, it is known to provide an excellent balance of extreme longevity and a conviction with the look of a natural restoration, especially in demanding posterior (back) restorations.
Key Features
- Composition & Strength : It is a polycrystalline ceramic (zirconia), and contemporary versions, such as Lavatm Esthetic, are high flexural strength (around 800 MPa). This renders it much tougher than glass-ceramics (such as e.max) and able to withstand heavy chewing forces.
- Aesthetics : The latest formulas contain a mixture of crystal phases to boost translucency and have an in-built shade gradient. The Lavatm Esthetic is the first zirconia to exhibit natural fluorescence, enabling it to imitate natural teeth in all lighting conditions perfectly.
- Versatility : Lava Zirconia can be successfully used in:
- Single Crowns (Anterior and posterior)
- Bridges (in particular, 3-unit and long-span)
- Inlays, Onlays and Veneers (where maximum strength is needed)
- Production : Restoration; Made using CAD/CAM technology, restorations are precision-milled from a single monolithic block, making them strong and a perfect fit.
